What Is a Knee Ligament Repair Surgery?

Knee Repair Ligaments surgery, often referred to as ligament reconstruction, is a procedure aimed at repairing or reconstructing one or more of the ligaments in the knee. Ligaments are tough bands of tissue that connect bones and stabilize joints

The two most common procedures are Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction and Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL).

Knee ligament Repair surgery is a highly effective procedure for restoring stability and function to the knee after a ligament injury. Advances in surgical techniques and rehabilitation protocols have greatly improved outcomes, allowing many patients to return to their previous levels of activity.

5 Benefits of Ligaments Repair Surgery

Restores Knee Stability and Function

Ligament repair surgery, especially for critical ligaments like the ACL, restores the stability of the knee joint.

This stability is essential for performing daily activities and engaging in sports or physical activities without the risk of the knee giving way or feeling unstable.

Reduced Pain and Discomfort

Surgery can significantly reduce or eliminate the chronic pain associated with ligament injuries.
Patients can experience improved quality of life and comfort, allowing them to perform activities without constant pain.

Enhanced Athletic Performance

Athletes and physically active individuals can return to their previous level of performance or even improve their capabilities.

Impact: Properly repaired ligaments can handle the stress and demands of high-impact sports, leading to better performance and a lower risk of future injuries

Prevention of Secondary Damage

Repairing a torn ligament can prevent further damage to other structures in the knee, such as the meniscus or cartilage.
This can reduce the likelihood of developing osteoarthritis or other degenerative conditions in the knee, thereby extending the overall health and function of the joint.

Improved Long-term Joint Health

Timely and effective ligament repair can improve the long-term health of the knee joint.

By maintaining the alignment and function of the knee, patients can avoid compensatory movements that could lead to other joint or muscle issues over time.

PROCESS OF LIGAMENTS REPAIR SURGERY

What to Expect at Orthopedics Surgeries Mexico

What happens before the procedure?

During the consultation, the surgeon will assess your symptoms, review your medical history, and conduct a physical examination. They will explain the hip replacement procedure along with the potential risks and benefits specific to your case.

What happens during the procedure?

Knee ligament surgery often involves arthroscopic techniques. A small camera and specialized instruments are used to access the knee joint. The surgeon creates small holes in the thighbone and shinbone to anchor a new ligament, typically a graft from another tendon. This graft replaces the damaged ligament, restoring stability to the knee. The incisions are then closed.

How long does a Ligament Surgery take?

Ligaments Repair Surgery ACL or PCL usually take two to two and half hours.

What happens after this procedure?

Most of Ligaments Repair Surgeries in Mexico are outpatient surgeries, which means you can go to your hotel on the same day. You might need to stay in the hospital overnight (outpatient extended recovery). Your anesthesiologist will make sure your wake up from anesthesia is going well and don’t experience any immediate complications from your surgery.

THE RESULTS OF SURGERY

Getting Back to Your Life

Most knee ligament repair patients experience substantial progress towards regaining stability and reducing pain within three months of their surgery. The initial recovery period is crucial for restoring mobility and strength.

You should continue to see improvements in the year following your surgery in Mexico. Pain should gradually subside, and your range of motion should improve. However, it's important to note that some activities will need to be reintroduced gradually.
While high-impact activities like running and basketball can be too stressful on the repaired ligament, low-impact activities are recommended to promote recovery and maintain overall fitness. Activities like Swimming, Walking, Golfing and Riding Bicycle are highly recommended

Personalized Recovery Schedule

Before your departure from Mexico City, your surgeon will provide you with a detailed recovery schedule tailored to your specific needs. This schedule will outline the necessary steps and precautions for the months following your surgery to achieve the best results and ensure a smooth return to your daily activities.
By following these guidelines and adhering to your recovery plan, you can maximize your chances of a successful outcome and a return to an active, pain-free lifestyle.
