What Is Hallux Valgus Correction Surgery?

Hallux Valgus correction surgery is a procedure to correct a deformity of the big toe, commonly known as a bunion. In Hallux Valgus, the big toe leans toward the second toe, causing a bony bump on the side of the foot. This condition can lead to pain, discomfort, and difficulty in wearing shoes.
At Orthopedic Surgeries Mexico, this surgery is performed by expert surgeons, ensuring effective pain relief and improved alignment and appearance of the foot. The procedure allows patients to return to normal activities with greater comfort and confidence.

5 Benefits of Hallux Valgus Correction

Pain Relief

The surgery effectively alleviates the chronic pain associated with bunions, allowing for more comfortable walking and standing.

Improved Foot Alignment

Enhanced foot alignment and reduced pain lead to improved mobility and the ability to participate in physical activities without discomfort.

Easier Footwear Fit

After surgery, patients can typically wear a wider variety of shoes comfortably, without the pain and pressure caused by bunions.

PROCESS OF HALLUX VALGUS CORRECTION SURGERY

What to Expect at Orthopedics Surgeries Mexico

What happens during the procedure?

During the consultation, the surgeon will assess your symptoms, review your medical history, and conduct a physical examination. They will explain the hallux valgus correction procedure along with the potential risks and benefits specific to your case.

What happens during the procedure?

During Hallux Valgus correction surgery, the patient is given either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia to ensure comfort during the procedure.

The surgeon will make a small incision along the side of the big toe, near the bunion. He will realign the bones in the big toe by cutting or reshaping them to correct the deformity. This may involve removing part of the bone or repositioning it. The ligaments, tendons, and other soft tissues around the toe may be adjusted or tightened to ensure proper alignment and stability. To finish screws, plates, or wires are used to hold the bones in their new, corrected position while they heal.

How long does a hip replacement take?

Hallux Valgus correction surgery typically takes about one to two hours to complete, depending on the severity of the bunion and the specific techniques used by the surgeon. The procedure time may vary based on factors such as the complexity of the deformity and whether any additional corrective measures are needed.

What happens after this procedure?

In general Hallux Valgus Correction / Bunion Surgeries in Mexico are outpatient surgeries, which means you can go to your hotel on the same day. You might need to stay in the hospital overnight (outpatient extended recovery).

Following the procedure, you'll be monitored in a recovery room for a period of time until the anesthesia wears off and you're stable enough to go to your hotel or to a hospital room (rare cases).

THE RESULTS OF SURGERY

Getting Back to Your Life

Most hallux valgus surgery patients experience significant progress towards a pain-free life. The procedure effectively addresses pain caused by the bunion deformity, reducing joint pressure and improving foot function.

You should continue to see improvements in the year following your surgery. Pain will gradually subside, and your range of motion will increase. However, some activities will not be possible right away.

High-impact activities like running or intense sports can be too stressful for your recovering foot. Instead, focus on low-impact activities such as walking, swimming, and cycling.

Before leaving Mexico, your surgeon will provide a recovery schedule tailored for the months ahead. Following this plan will help you achieve the best results and smoothly return to daily activities.
